When is the best time to drink protein when I’m working out?

Steve S asked:

I workout around my work schedule and know enough about rotating my workout to provide muscle, and all that. I work out average 4 days per week. I eat protein in my diet and want to add a protein shake supplement (just protein, i don’t want many carbs or other calories), I currently take a Nitric Oxide supplement and add a little creatine monohydrate before lifting.

I was wondering when the best time to take the protein would be. Like with my others before the workout, before bed (I’ve heard that this helps muscle recovery a lot), or right after the workout or in the morning.

I only want to take in one on off days and two on lift days….I’m broke. So whats up, when’s the best time for me.
